As the new year rolls in, the temptation to start anew with our hair colour beckons. Switching up our hair colour is a simple way to make a dramatic or subtle change - depending on what vibe you are going for.

We have pulled together 4 colour techniques that we expect to see a lot more of in 2022. So if you are after a change, big or small, or just fancy taking a peek at what the future of hair may hold, keep scrolling!

Natural Hair Colour

After months of quarantine and closed salons, many of us had to embrace our natural selves, roots and all! It looks like this movement is here to stay too, as it’s predicted that in 2022 even more of us will be ditching the bleach in favour of healthier, natural hair.

Moving towards a more natural look doesn’t have to mean ditching the dye completely though. Consider elevating your natural hair colour with highlights or lowlights, for added dimension. Or perhaps opting for a gloss to give your locks a beautiful, mirror shine.

If you are looking to grow out your coloured hair get in touch! Our stylists would love to chat about the best options for you.

Mushroom Browns

With a name inspired by the cool, earthy tones of Portabello mushrooms, the multi-dimensional shades of mushroom brown locks are gorgeous.

This versatile hair colour which is rich and ashy is suitable for any skin tone and can be dialled up or down depending on your desired final look.

Hailey Bieber debuted her darker, mushroom brown locks in 2021, and we predict lots more of us will be referencing Hailey’s hair when chatting to our stylists in 2022!

The key to getting the perfect mushroom brown hair colour incorporates cool, ashy highlights and lowlights as well as specialist toning techniques. Add these on top of an ashy base for the perfect sophisticated 2022 look.

Shadow Roots

Embrace the grow out with this effortlessly cool look. A shadow root (or root smudge), is a technique that involves your stylist painting over your fresh highlights or colour with a shade closer to your natural tone.

Shadow roots are perfect for extending the life of your colour, by removing the harsh grow-out line and swapping it for a more subtle contrast. This look works well on any cut, but we particularly love it paired with shaggy layers and bangs for a very cool ‘lived-in’ vibe.

We can expect lots more of us to opt for this low-maintenance style in 2022.

Golden Copper

Red hair has really been having its moment in 2021 and we are very happy to see it sticking around for 2022 too! In 2022 we can expect to see red tones that are closer to that of natural redheads - think golden strawberry blonde and warm copper. Red tones are a winner for so many of us as they suit a myriad of skin tones - adding warmth and depth.

Coloured red hair may be renowned for fading but fear not, as these natural red shades fade to a more golden tone than a brassy one, making upkeep less of a struggle.

Chat to your stylist about which products are best suited to keeping your red hair vibrant for as long as possible.
